"Into the Woods" begins filming

I had sort of lost track of when shooting was to officially begin on this picture, but today James Corden, who plays The Baker, tweeted this pic with the caption "First Day!":

I'm not sure if Meryl begins work right away as well, but recall in my post on July 15 that it had been reported that she was set to head to London in three weeks to start work.  Three weeks would put it exactly today.  Considering The Witch is going to be in quite a few scenes, I'd wager that Meryl is in the thick of things this week already.  I wonder when we'll get set pics!

  1. Jeff I meant to ask since you have seen the play, in your opinion is Meryl's role potential Oscar bait? Or is it more just pure entertainment value like Mamma Mia and other popular musicals?

I find James Corden quite irritating actually, I hope Meryl doesn't!

    1. The short answer: yes. Of course there are SO many factors that can come into play, however. If Meryl is a major factor this year for August: Osage County, it'll soften her chances next year. If the Into the Woods is shitty, that'll certainly hurt as well. If she doesn't win for August, Into the Woods is very well received by critics and does well at the box office, it could totally be an awards magnet. I don't see how Meryl won't at least get a Globe nomination.

  3. On Monday Daniel Huttlestone on his facebook page mentioned he was rehearsing with Streep, Depp, and Corden. So excited about all this Meryl Streep news! Happy camper here!

    1. Looks like Huttlestone is official, then! Sophia Grace added as Little Red. Kinda weird.
