First poster for "Ricki and the Flash"

Evindently a snippet from Ricki and the Flash was shown in Las Vegas at CinemaCon last night, and someone in attendance posted a pic of the first poster from the film:

Meryl looks pretty bitchin'.  JJ Duncan from Zimbio also happens to think this will nab Streep her 20th Oscar nomination, as the few minutes of film showing Meryl were apparently rather impressive. Couple that with another transformative look, and it's hard not to agree that she'll easily be in the conversation for awards consideration.  Rumor has it that we can expect the first trailer in the second half of May.

  1. She looks fantastic and so slim! Depending on how great the film this there might even be a conversation about her fourth win. A respectable time has passed since her 3rd triumph so let's see!

    1. Whoa high hopes! I just think that to secure another lead win in the near future Meryl's performance would have to be incredibly special. No doubt this will be a great performance, but a win is going to be extremely difficult.

    2. I agree, but I remember in 2006 if Mirren hadn't done The Queen Meryl would have been seriously in the running to win due to the fact she blew everyone away with something so fresh and surprising.
I think her next win has to be something we've never seen from her before and Ricki seems to tick a lot of that...

    3. I agree, it does. But remember that when Devil Wears Prada came out, Meryl hadn't won in almost 25 years. That narrative was possibly the more compelling. She just win he third three years ago. Here's hopin'.

    4. It all depends on the year and the competition too. I'd be very interested to hear you opinions on who you believe should have won, especially in Best Actress, all the years you are knowledgeable on. For some reason I love to read what people in the know think should have been!

    5. The problem is I'm not super knowledgeable before the past ten years, with the exception of Meryl's years. I'll have to do it in a separate post for some of her more recent races, at least to start.

  3. What special performance would qualify in your eyes - Sophie's choice 2?

    1. Ha, no. Maybe Ricki will be it, but I doubt it. I don't know what roles she'll be doing over the next five years. Florence Foster Jenkins seems more "baity" on paper, but I'm not convinced it would be necessarily be a biopic. I suppose that's part of the fun of anticipation.

  4. Her next win will be when the film she is in has broad support, meaning nominated for picture, screenplay, director etc

    1. That would certainly be helpful.

    2. I agree in theory, her Iron lady win would have been less up in the air if the film had received more widespread acclaim. If Ricki is as good as it could be hopefully it will snag a Best Picture nomination and Screenplay. I am not sure at yet if any of the supporting actors will have enough material to distinguish themselves but here's hoping.

I also hope the film has included one original song (maybe penned by Ricki for her daughter?) so we can have a Best Song nom too. Haha

Hard to believe it was 2002 that a Meryl film was up for the top honour, I still think Doubt was much stronger than The Reader in 2008.

  5. I think that having up to 10 nominees for Best Pic skews things a bit now days- wish they would go back to five
