First official screening of "Into the Woods"

Yesterday turned out to be all about Into the Woods.  A simulcast screening in New York and Burbank took place with a cast Q&A afterward, which Meryl attended.  I was able to watch the livestream, and although it was rather short (under an hour), we got some good feedback from cast and filmmakers.

Overall reaction from fans and members of the film/predictions industry has been favorable.  Meryl in particular is getting a lot of very positive notices, as is Chris Pine who's been noted as a surprising scene stealer.  It's impossible to get a good sense by just posting a few twitter reactions, but if you're interested in that, several can be seen on this IMDb thread.  Official reviews have been embargoed by Disney until mid December.

In addition to the screening, another film clip including Meryl was released yesterday.

More great stuff.  Finally, interviews with most of the cast and director Rob Marshall were released to You Tube yesterday, including some interesting B roll from filming.   Below you'll see all three of Meryl's interviews.  Enjoy!

  1. Great stuff, good to see the film gaining momentum. Meryl has been so busy this last week..

    1. She certainly has. I'm sure Ricki and the Flash is still filming. What do you think the chances are of Master Class going forward without Nichols?

    2. I am very much hoping it will still happen and within that time-frame too so we get it late next year. Who knows. I just hope if they get a replacement it is of high calibre. Maybe this could be Meryl's chance to take the reigns even?

I was also wondering if Ricki will have a soundtrack given that there's a few songs going on. I read some of the official reviews from the screenings and am eating up the Meryl applauds. We are exactly the same in dying to hear them!

  2. Thoughts on Meryl's chances to win her 4th oscar for ITW? Seems the opinion
at Film Experience is that she won too recently, her 3rd win remains very
divisive and winning for musicals is difficult...

    1. I think we're looking at second place to Patricia Arquette. I don't think it's impossible, but unlikely. FilmExperience has good points. If she hadn't won for TIL she possibly would've been undeniable based on what we've heard from clips and reactions to the full film at this point. Interesting article on Meryl's chances here:

    2. It makes me angry every time I read some person saying her Iron Lady win remains divisive. Yes Viola and the others were very good but no one else could have pulled of the performance Meryl did and all the components it involved.

If she had not won would we have heard so much about the winner? No. Because Meryl is judged to a very unfair standard and overlooked time and again because her amazing performances are like buses - another one along soon enough. How about all the times she gave arguably the most difficult or superior performance and someone else won? When do we hear cries for this?

Yes The Iron Lady could have been better and more accomplished but her performance could not have been improved upon.
