'Poll' feature added to Word on the Streep

I've been considering for a while adding polls to the website to sort of allow some interaction among readers.  A few of you have offered suggestions and I'm happy to create several polls, but I think I'm going to start with a fairly easy one: Oscar snubs.  To the right you can see the first poll.

There of course is already a section where up to this point I have analyzed four instances where it could be argued Meryl should've been nominated and wasn't.  I'll include those four and add 1994's The River Wild.

Please let me know if there are other ideas you  have or poll questions you'd like to me create.  This first poll will close in one week.

  1. I voted for Manchurian Candidate. I'm not going to discuss why until more votes come in, so as not to influence choices.

    1. Excellent, looking forward to the results!

I see Snatched isn't getting a warm critical welcome. If this was ever a script Meryl was offered it's a good job it didn't happen!

    2. Yeah, and the trailer left a lot to be desired for me. I'm not bummed Meryl wasn't involved.

  2. I voted for The River Wild because I got it confused with A River Runs Through It, which is the only one of these movies I've actually seen.

  3. It'd be neat, albeit a lot of work for you, if you would post clips best highlighting the baity parts of the 5 movies, like when Diane Keaton takes off her wig--GIVE HER AN OSCAR

  4. I'm torn between Marvin's Room and The Hours but I chose the latter eventually. She was sublime and Meryl has NOT acted that way since this movie. Recent performances were more showy and brash even in the quieter scenes. Ricki and Flash is my least favourite followed by Manchurian Candidate. David

  5. I say Plenty if only the movie came out in 1984 or 1986.

  6. I think the brillant performance in The Hours out ranks the others

  7. I said the Hours. I don't thinkMeryl was nominated. I had to be Nicole. Ultrage

  8. Looks like The Hours may be heading for an overwhelming 'win'. Deservingly so, in my opinion even though I thought her performance in Marvin's Room was superb as well. Sometimes I wish Meryl would work with the likes of Todd Haynes to elicit a much nuanced (hours-like) performance from her like what Haynes did with Julianne Moore and Cate Blanchett. David.
