This isn't shocking news, as since it was revealed that The Devil Wears Prada sequel will be released on May 1 of next year, we've all known that filming likely has to take place rather soon. We now have reluctant confirmation from Emily Blunt (who of course plays the eponymous character Emily in the original) that filming will begin next month (see 1:01):
It's obvious that producers don't want to reveal much. Very little in fact has been shared about the storyline, other than that Blunt's character may be sort of bigwig executive whose advertising dollar Miranda needs to keep Runway afloat in the increasingly digitally-dominated world of media.
I look forward to maybe seeing some set picks within a few weeks?!
Any new casting should be very imminent then!! I expect Miranda’s twins will appear. Also I hope they’ve managed to get Patricia Field back as costume designer.

I also love the way the interviewer doesn’t let her get away with the usual denial techniques… then Emily goes all meta and monitors her denial technique. It sums up the experience of many Streep fans right now!
DeleteI agree it's been too long. Five years between feature films?! I'd be so thrilled if this did well with critics and box office for it to (similarly to the first) green-light future projects for Meryl. The options are not going to be endless.
DeleteWe’re entering the penultimate act, for sure. It feels right that it’s curtain up with Disney, since Meryl has been enhancing their brand for just over a decade (even in the wake of that honest 2014 speech about Walt). It feels to me like they owe her a big vehicle such as this.

Looking back on this dry stretch, a picture emerges of Streep working in friendly stables like Netflix and HBO, the masterstroke of taking smaller key role with young directors (like Gerwig) and leads with auteurs (like Soderbergh), then being a bit of a comedic journeywoman in cozy crime, close to home.
You’ve already analysed the roles that she was offered/turned down in this period, but off the top of my head I can’t really think of anything from 2022-25 that she should have been in.
Here’s to a big success with Meryl heading up a perennial story for a company that believes in her!
