First full trailer for "Suffragette"

A full-length trailer for Suffragette was released this morning:

My first reaction is that this actually looks like this could be a great film. Dramatic, important story in history. Both Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter look fantastic. Nothing new from Meryl's character, but her role is used to its fullest in the cut here. I'm cautiously optimistic about this one.

  1. I can't figure out how to get the paragraph off to the right underneath the trailer. I'll adjust once a YouTube version comes out. Something weird with the embed from Moviefone.

  2. Haha even though Meryl could have done her part whilst in a coma this actually looks very good. I hope the film is a well received gem but I will stay neutral until we learn more...

    1. Agreed, Charlie. It would almost be embarrassing were she to get nominated for it.

  3. Both trailers for this seem well done, especially in contrast to Ricki and the Flash. Selfishly I wish Pankurst were the subject of the film- now that would have been an amazing role for Meryl- especially since this is a cause she supports so strongly. Oh well-I guess a cameo in a good film is better than nothing. Pretty cool that this and Ricki are coming out a month apart since the two roles couldn't be more different!
Still hoping Ricki turns out to be higher caliber than that terrible trailer leads on... because no matter how amazing Meryl is as Pankurst there's no way she's getting nominated for anything for such a small role... And I'd rather her not sit out the whole awards season this year just because her roles aren't perceived as baity enough. Really I can't wait until Meryl gives another universally well received performance in good role. These last couple of years her reviews have seemed more mixed in terms of Oscar worthiness and I'm tired of people thinking she's being over-nominated. Prove them wrong Meryl!

    1. I couldn't agree more. In my dreams Suffragette is super successful and it gets a film on Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton gets greenlit for Meryl and Kathy Bates to co-star. I also really hope that The Good House films later this year. Hildy Good is an original character, an emotional role that would be wonderful to see Meryl interpret. And then of course there's my obsession with Meryl portraying Indira Gandhi...
