On-set pics from "Florence Foster Jenkins"

I'm a little pokey getting to this, but we've gotten our first pics from the set of Florence Foster Jenkins:

Director Stephen Frears

Hugh Grant as St. Clair Bayfield

No other glimpses of Meryl yet!  Filming will take place through July.  No word yet on expected release dates.

  1. Florence is at least looking more well done and "authentic" so to speak thus far- I just hope it's dramatic enough for Oscar consideration, especially since it seems Meryl could have a miss this year. I was highly anticipating Ricki and the Flash until the trailer came out... now it just seems low rent to me. I despise how corny the marketing has been. I was hoping for something edgier but as of right now it just seems like it could potentially be cringe-worthy. Usually I trust Meryl's judgement with scripts, but I worry that she may have just chosen this one because she could get Mamie a significant part in a widely released picture. I really hope I'm wrong and the film is more reputable than the trailer makes it seem. Basically I'm praying they dumbed down the preview to attract a wider audience but the actual film is much edgier and gives Meryl more to work with.

    1. I agree for the most part. I do believe that the trailer was specifically cut to appeal to a wider audience...which sadly suggest it's been dumbed down. August: Osage County was cut to seem like a comedy, and I consider it anything but. I even remember Thelma & Louise trailer being cut as a comedy, and it was particularly dark in many ways. I think we may be pleasantly surprised.

    2. I'm hoping so. The Hope Springs trailer was cut like a comedy as well when it turned out to deeper and more emotional than it seemed. (Though Meryl wasn't nominated for that either). But there are seemingly baity moments for Meryl in the Ricki trailer which when expanded into scenes could be very promising... the problem is that the field already looks crowded this year for a partly comedic/more lighthearted role to get Oscar traction, even if it is Meryl. Whatever- I just hope she holds her own on the singing since she went with a raspy smoker's voice for this. She has such an amazing singing voice normally but I hope she can still pull off the songs with this strange deeper voice she went with. I was really hoping for some Bad Romance action in the trailer and I'm surprised they didn't include any of that.

  2. Hoping for an edgy Young Adult type script...

  3. That grand staircase is Westminster Central Hall, I go there for Christmas service each year. Wish I had known some of these filming locations, they are so close! :-(
