Trailer for "Ricki and the Flash"

As usual, without further ado...

First thoughts were that I wanted more music!  Meryl of course looks amazing, and it definitely seems to be marketed as a comedy.  I was thrilled to see so much of Audra McDonald.  I have to watch it a few more times to get a full, honest reaction.  I'll add more thoughts later.  Hope everyone enjoys!

  1. After watching a couple times, there are a few cheesy lines. I realize that promoters have to try to appeal to a wide audience. I expect the actual film to be a little more somber, but I'll still predict comedy category at the globes. The wedding at the end appears to be of her son, Sebastian Stan, not Mamie. I think the third kid/son is supposed to be gay from what I previously read.

  3. Even if "cheesy", I'll watch it. I don't get how people can predict Oscars based on a 2-minute trailer. But (negating my previous statement), my first impression was: a 20th for Meryl. And, wouldn't it be grand if it was a 1st for Mamie! If memory doesn't fail me, wouldn't that be a first mother-daughter nomination since Diane Ladd and Laura Dern in 1991? And, probably only the second ever mother-daughter nominations ever?

  4. Terrible trailer.,,hopefully, the movie will excel with the music and the script will surprise with the edgy Cody dialogs...

    1. Agreed. I don't think it was "terrible" but disappointing. I still wonder if by some chance they'll release Florence Foster Jenkins at the end of December.

  5. I'm now kinda hoping that Florence gets released by year end to qualify
for 2015 oscar consideration. This would give Meryl a comedy & drama for
    2015.oscar awards...

    1. Yes yes yes. As I've said before, had Master Class happened and Florence released by year end, we could potentially have seen Streep nominated in three separate categories at the Golden Globes, all for playing singers.

    2. Aw Jeff, I think this will haunt you for a long time to come!

    3. Ha probably! Just when I thought I was over it someone suggests Florence being released this year (which actually isn't a nuts idea). Fun to speculate though!

  6. Sad we didn't get to see M rock out but I think this is a case of a poor trailer rather than a poor movie. Despite not showcasing the film very well the performances look great and I believe it still has huge potential. Hopefully there's a step up in marketing before August, this could still be a hit.

    1. I agree absolutely with this. I am sure this film will be very strong given what we've heard about it before and some scenes seem to point to quite dramatic and touching bits. I just think the trailer isn't really that strong but I was still pleased to get a glimpse of what we've getting.

Promo needs to step up over the next 3 months to make this a smash though. Let's hope there is a good team in place!

    2. I too agree with Anonymous' comment. It's fun to get excited about a good trailer, but when it's disappointing, that is not necessarily an indication of the overall quality of the film.

  7. What is with all the Debbie downers? This looks great and the trailer does a great job of appealing to he masses- especially with what will be a biting screenplay from Diablo Cody....Streep feels so free and I love the fact that she is creating a role from scratch. I think the performance will win over many voters complaining of Streep fatigue. This will be her 20 th nomination- no doubt about it!

  8. I just watched it again and quite enjoyed it! I love the little part at the end where her daughter dances on stage, so cute! I would have liked more music though but I'm sure there'll be more promo to come..
