Ooooo! Fun new stuff on Word on the Streep!

Things are coming together people. As you can see, there are a few new things on the blog. Probably most noticeably, there is a countdown to Meryl's newest film release in the upper right corner of the home page. Just below that, I've added some helpful links that I encourage people to utilize for all things Meryl. My personal favorite is awardscircuit.com. They already have deatailed 2012 Oscar predictions. Obsess much? Oh wait.

As I mentioned in my original post for this blog, I'll be adding some sections that will begin showing at the top of my page soon. My first attempt (I say that because I'm such a boob at computer stuff sometimes and Joe has to hold my hand. By the way, thanks babe for all your help today) will be at adding a "Tell Me Your Favorite Meryl Movie" tab. If you see it when you read this post, it worked! Mine should be the first added. Oh, and add yours as well in the comments section.

  1. "Sophie's Choice." Put simply, the greatest film performance, man or woman, in the history of cinema. Done.

  2. I would say that my favorite Meryl movie is Adaptation. My second favorite would be Devil Wears Prada, duh.

  3. My favorite? I'll have to get back to you on that. However, last night, I did (in honor of the new additions to the site) watch a Meryl movie I had never seen before: Kramer vs. Kramer. And I bawled my eyes out. Duh.

  4. Well, being the roommate of the blog's author, I have had the opportunity of seeing a couple of Meryl movies that I had missed over the years - "Bridges of Madison County" and "Sophie's Choice" - both of which I really enjoyed and which helped me to comprehend my roommate's fascination with her. But, since my roommates and I have spent many a Sunday afternoon saying every line along with "The Devil Wears Prada" I will have to go with that. "Florals...for Spring? Groundbreaking."

  6. Since I have seen EVERY Meryl Streep movie many times, it's hard to pick a favorite. I know her best work has been done in her critically acclaimed serious movies, but I tend to love her brilliant work done in ones with happier endings! My older favs are "The French Lieutenant's Woman" (both a happy and not-so-happy ending), "Postcards From the Edge" (the first time we hear her singing very much), "Heartburn" (gotta love that ending!), and "Falling in Love". The newer ones that make me happy are:"Prada", "Mama Mia,""Julie and Julia", and "It's Complicated".

  7. Be it that I am a best friend of Jeff William, I feel I must embark on this commentary journey with you all as I begrudgingly add my two cents (no pressure here).
As typical friendships ago, I couldn’t avoid, during our 11-year span, being involuntarily subjected to the viewing of, "Sophie's Choice." Though mentioned in this posting, it is NOT my favorite (though anyone who knows Jeff realizes that to go tete a tete with him on this discussion would be futile). Therefore, with a knife against my throat, I would have to pick, “Death Becomes Her.”

  8. Happy 100th Birthday Julia Child!
Thanks Meryl for making Julia's quirkiness and affinity for fine cooking more well-known.

  10. It's impossible to choose one ("take the girl!") but since the obvious ones are Sophie's Choice, Silkwood and maybe Kramer vs. Kramer, I'm going with 2 more obscure ones that deserve a whole lot more attention than they've gotten: Cry in the Dark (insane!) and Falling in Love (I'm the only one I know who loved it ... so much about that made me a Meryl fanatic!)

    1. I completely agree with you on A Cry in the Dark. Amazing performance. Falling in Love is forgettable for me, but glad it made you a Meryl fanatic!

    2. Also Ironweed. Not my favorite film, but her performance broke my heart. And in case anyone forgot, The French Lieutenant's Woman was back when I first discovered her - in those wonderful sweeping foreign romances!

  11. Meryl's fav movies. Oh, that's mean I should choose best of the best ones.
But I'll choose The Bridges of Madison County for her terrific Italian accent and her chemistry with Clint Eastwood. The Devil Wears Prada would be my second one for the icy queen act.

  12. Although I would have to agree that Sophie's Choice is one of the greatest performances ever committed to film, I still have to mention A Cry In The Dark. As a movie, I can watch Cry more often than I can watch Sophie. But, of all Meryl movies, The Devil Wears Prada is the one I can watch the most frequently.

    1. I love A Cry in the Dark as well. Devil Wears Prada is definitely the film I can (and probably do) watch of hers the most.

  13. Please forgive me Meryl Streep http://hatinggod.blogspot.com/2015/06/please-forgive-me-meryl-streep.html tells of the Meryl Streep movie I hate and love!

  14. My favorite is The Bridges of Madison County, followed very closely by the Devil Wears Prada. The first Meryl Streep film I ever saw was "Silkwood", so this will always have a very special place in my heart. I was 15 when I saw this film, and remember being heartbroken when she lost the Oscar to Shirley McClaine. I was not even aware of who Meryl Streep was when she won the Oscar for Sophie's Choice. So it would 29 long, agonizing years and 13 nominations until I was able to experience the pure joy of seeing Meryl Streep actually win an Oscar....
