Filming begins next week on season 2 of "Big Little Lies"

Reese Witherspoon, who of course stars in and executive produces Bit Little Lies, has revealed that filming will start next Friday on season 2. To be perfectly clear, she states that they're "starting" next Friday, so I'm not exactly sure if that truly means principal photography, or just officially showing up for work and doing table reads or something. Regardless, it's exciting to know that things will be underway soon.

This news also tells me that the timing of the project means Meryl's fall should be completely open (at least in regard to filming anything), so maybe we can look forward to something being announced. Seems like the perfect opportunity to sign on for a lead film role that could be released second half of 2019.

  1. Keep her out of films until 2020. Not only would that extend her filmography into her 6th decade but give her a 2 year absence from awards season. I would love someone to write a role where she plays an alcoholic. We haven't seen her as a drunk or as an attorney/judge. There has to be something juicy. And I want Judith Light to play her sister and snag a supporting actress nomination.

    1. I guess I don't mind that strategy. And OMG do you not know the story of The Good House? I've been obsessed with her playing it since it was announced she was starring in it alongside Robert de Niro in 2013. She would play an alcoholic. Love the story and the role. Michael Cunningham was doing the screenplay based on Ann Leary's novel.

  2. Streep needs to do a different type of performance to really get the gold again. Watching the Oscars reminded me that McDormand's performance was so one note and lacked the character development and she didn't have a typical Oscar scene - so WHY were so many enthralled with it and she swept....the story line and character? It's crazy to think McDormand needs one more Oscar to tie Streep. I ordered the Good House on audiobook just now. I'll let you know how it goes. Or how about someone with multiple personalities :)

    2. Sean, glad you're going to listen to the audio. Mary Beth Hurt is absolutely fabulous in her narration. I sort of agree about McDormand. My vote this year would've been for Sally Hawkins I think.

Back to The Good House, I've though lately about how it might work for a TV miniseries, just like Olive Kitteridge on HBO. It would provide for more in depth character analysis, and possibly more likely to get picked up since TV is sort of the rage now. How about that? Streep could have Big Little Lies released first half of 2019, The Good House late 2019 and The Nix first half of 2020. Then a triumphant return to film with an inspiring turn in Nyad in the second half of 2020, just after the election of a woman to the presidency. I'm such a dreamer.

  3. Couldn't Little Big Lies feasibly be released around June this year to build on the demand for more?

  4. Highly doubtful. They probably won't even wrap shooting until May. First season was released almost a year after filming.
