Streep, Hanks and Spielberg visit Washington Post

I'd been wondering if filming was underway for The Post (no longer the title, but haven't seen official release on new title) as I had previously seen that May 22 was supposed to be the date.  It now appears that they may still technically be in pre-production, as Meryl, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg were on hand this morning at the Washington Post to observe a meeting, likely for research purposes.

All previous indications have been that filming was set to start in May, knowing that it is supposed to be released in December.  Maybe it will officially begin next week (still May).  Regardless, just glad to see some action on this!

  1. http://www.dga.org/~/media/Files/Production%20List/CPLBAFull%20pdf according to DGA (scroll down to New York) it starts next week , May 30th. and wraps August 1st. But Mamma Mia is said to start production this summer so not sure how she will be able to do that? A small part I am assuming?

    1. Thanks, Alex! DGA still lists it as The Post. Interesting.

    2. I think the preparation for Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again has been going on for quite sometime. If you look up the original film wikipedia page you will see the timeline. The original was filmed on the Greek Island during August/September and the rest in the studio after that. So Meryl can finish The Post and start having fun shooting Mamma Mia 2 immidiately. Right now, I'm just enjoy watching all the ABBA songs that was not on the original movie soundtrack on YOUTUBE and guess which one will end up being used for the sequel soundtrack. Happy being a Meryl Streep fanatic.

  2. August 1st? Can even Spielberg turn around a great film in less than 5 months? Spotlight took 8 months. From the start it's felt like this film is going to sacrifice quality for Oscar buzz.

    1. Munich in 2005 didn't even START filming until June 30th and was released that year. That film also likely had a more challenging production schedule. I'm not at all worried.

  3. Interesting how this Hollywood Reporter article seems to suggest the new title of the film is "Pentagon Papers." That would totally make sense and be appropriate as a more potent title.

    1. There's another movie called Pentagon Papers so I don't think it's going to be called that. I think Hollywood Reporter is just referring to it as Spielberg's Pentagon Papers movie.

  5. I've seen nothing definitive for Meryl's schedule, but have read in a few of the announcements that it's supposed to start in August. I'll be interested to learn how big of a part Meryl is supposed to have, as that will give us a better sense of the time she'll spend filming.
