"The Post" set to start filming in May

Deadline is reporting that The Post is already set to begin production this May, with a potential late 2017 release.  Holy crap!  We just found out about this Monday and it may start shooting in like six weeks.  It's understandable that the way this picture may capture the zeitgeist that getting it out as soon as possible could be vital to the film's popularity and overall success.  Director Steven Spielberg will be on a tight schedule to get this wrapped in time for screenings at fall festivals.

If any film were going to be fairly straightforward in regard to shooting, however, it's this one.  Most of the scenes consist of dialogue in interior settings.  No special effects.  No large, sweeping landscapes.  I imagine additional casting news will likely be forthcoming as well.

This would leave the fall open for Meryl to shoot The Nix, which I imagine they'd want to release sometime next spring to most effectively contend for Emmy nominations.

  1. Well here's us thinking we won't get any more Meryl for many months and here's the potential for another awards circuit!

This reminds me of how fast Ricki happened in 2014!

    1. I thought the same thing, Charlie. But this pace is crazy. Ricki was announced late March 2014, was filmed that fall and released in August 2015. A total of just under 17 months. For The Post, it was announced early March 2017, will begin filming in May and be released presumably at the latest December of this year...about nine months. Ricki was quick, but The Post may be twice as fast. Wow. Of course Meryl doesn't have to learn any instruments for this one though so prep should be a breeze in comparison.

  2. And she can kinda prep for The Post and The Nix at the same time because both roles are in 1970s.

    1. Actually, Meryl's role in The Nix takes place almost in present day, or around 2010 I think. There is a lot of moving back and forth in time, but the parts in the 60's is when her character is in college. I doubt she'll be playing that. It'll be interesting what they focus on, as it is a rather long book.

  3. Really eager to keep following the forthcoming news on The Post. As this is a movie which is all about freedom of speech and press, this is the best year for it to be released. I hope it focus also on the artistic quality and not only on the political matter.

So glad to see that Meryl and Hanks are acting together and this movie can a be a surprise of the awards season 2017/18!
