Streep gives moving speech in acceptance of Cecil B. DeMille Award

As expected, Emma Stone took the award in Meryl's category tonight, but the biggest moment of the evening went to our girl as she provided a riveting speech in accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award for Lifetime Achievement.

I don't think anyone expected Meryl to be so cutting in her criticism of Donald Trump.  Never actually mentioning his name, she instead invoked her late friend Carrie Fisher in stating "take your broken heart and make it into art."  She called upon the "principled" press to bear the standards of truth and bolstered the work of her fellow artists saying "an actor's only job is to enter the lives of people who are different from us and let you feel what that feels like."

So proud to be a fan of this woman.  Brava, Meryl.

  5. Oh and did everyone notice how the tribute video had the wrong number of Oscar nominations, saying she had 18? Of course we all know she has 19.

    1. Yes I caught it right away and it's a good job I was lying down! Outrage! Haha

I'm guessing hubbert's surprise win puts her strongly for an Oscar nom? She'd be part of a tiny group of people to win this category and fail to land a nom..

  6. How fortunate I consider myself not to live in your country. But, how unfortunate for all of us that we live in a global community where one supposedly intelligent, democratic area could elect a bigoted, racist tyrant as its spokesperson.
I was overjoyed that Viola was the one making the introduction, reciprocating what Meryl had done for Viola's Walk of Fame induction. I was also pleased by the reaction of most of the audience. And by Chris Pine's salute to Meryl's speech when he introduced his film. I must admit I was in tears by the end of Meryl's speech. Her vocal problems, her salute to Carrie Fisher, and the sincerity of her speech (notably, "Ryan Gosling, like all the nicest people, is Canadian") left me overwhelmed.
Thank you, Meryl. Thank you, Jeff. Hopefully the next four years will pass quickly and we'll all survive.

    3. I shouldn't dignify your comment with a response. But... look what you've written, the number of spelling and grammatical errors. To assuage your fears... don't worry. We're collecting to build a wall on our southern border!

  8. Another thought: Meryl ripping on Trump is almost like she's getting into character for her role in the Nix. Her first scene is basically throwing rocks at Donald Trump (or at least right-wing autocrat who's running for pres.
