2016 Academy Award predictions

Tomorrow is the big night.  Of course we all know that Meryl isn't nominated this year, but somehow her presence is always felt when I either watch or discuss any Oscar race.  I think we would have known by now if Meryl were presenting, but I suppose it's still a possibility.  Without further ado, here are my predictions in the top eight categories.

Best Picture
The Revenant
alt. The Big Short
(super not confident in this category)

Best Director
Alejandro González Iñárritu (The Revenant)
alt. George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road)

Best Actress
Brie Larson (Room)
alt. Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn)

Best Actor
Leonardo Dicaprio (The Revenant)
no alt.

Best Supporting Actress
Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl)--major category fraud but not her fault
alt. Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs)

Best Supporting Actor
Sylvester Stallone (Creed)
alt. Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies)

Best Original Screenplay
Spotlight
no alt.

Best Adapted Screenplay
The Big Short
no alt.

  1. We agree on all except I have Mark Ruffalo winning Best Supporting Actor and I think (hope) Spotlight has a chance to win best picture.

    1. Ruffalo is a distant third and Spotlight does have a chance, just not a great one. It's my personal favorite of the year, actually.

  2. 6 out of 8.

Good job! I didn't see that oscar coming to Rylance, and certainly Spotlight is not at all the best movie of the year, but it is always good to get a few surprises.

I wish next year we could have a similar post to comment Meryl's victory.

    1. Yeah I'm happy that Spotlight won, aside from not predicting it. I'm just hoping that Florence Foster Jenkins is a decent film.

    2. If Florence is a decent Stephen Frears-flick and Meryl can provide the same type of joy she did in Julie and Julia then the sky's the limit.
