Video for "Cold One" released

A music video for the original song "Cold One" from Ricki and the Flash was released today on You Tube:

We get to see a few new scenes from the film.  Several advanced screenings have now taken place and we're getting a handful of Twitter reactions which have all been rather positive.  After the initial trailers, many of us have been wondering if this was going to be a dud.  I'm a little more optimistic about its potential critical appeal now.

Next weeks is a big week; Meryl will be hitting several talk shows to promote Ricki, we'll likely get critical reviews as early as Monday and both the film and soundtrack will be released on Friday. Getting excited for reactions!

Meryl sounds amazing on this track (though I'm not loving the cheesy choreographed dancing.. maybe there's an explanation in context)..And I can't get over how beautiful she's looking in this movie. WOW. People who are saying Meryl is too old for this part are dead wrong- and she doesn't even look anywhere near her real age in this anyway.
Seriously praying for good reviews- that may be the only thing at this point that may help this movie get a bigger box office opening. I've been relieved with the limited screening reactions thus far- and some have even been hinting at raves- I think that would go a long way in helping those that think Meryl jumped the shark with this film reconsider.
Looking forward to this next week of promotion! Finally get to see more of Meryl and her beautiful self!

    1. I have yet to see a negative twitter reaction. It's been almost surprisingly positive, with some reactions even acknowledging how bad the trailers have been. It has to be just about the marketing. People on this blog are a sure thing to pay to see it in the theater. Over 50's are a sure thing. The youngsters need something that doesn't seem too heavy or too different from the typical summer blockbluster. It's becoming more possible that this could be both a commercial and simultaneous box office success.

I'm just not feeling a box office success- and I don't think Sony does either since it's being released on less than 2000 screens. There is just not a lot of buzz surrounding this film at all. Hopefully it does well with the critics at least.

  2. I don't really understand how the promo/build up has been that different from most of Meryl's other hits like Julie and Julia, It's Complicated or Hope Springs..

With these films, it wasn't just the opening but the consistency, week after week that gave the impressive final numbers..

Well all of those movies opened in more theatres and in my opinion had better promotion before release. I mean Ricki opens in 5 days and I think the only thing I've really seen Meryl in is the one interview with Parade magazine, though maybe that's her choice since we know she hates promotion. I just think Sony really screwed up the ad campaign this time around. Really the studio's entire summer has been a disaster. And is it customary to withhold reviews for this long? T- 5 days and still nothing. Just seems strange to have such long embargo unless they're expecting bad reviews. Maybe I'm wrong about that though.

  4. I seriously think this soundtrack needs to be up for the Grammy next year - I'm beginning to believe Jonathan Demme when he raved about it a few weeks ago. I can't stop listening to Drift away this weekend!
