Into the Woods surpassed $125 million at the domestic box office this weekend. Add almost $46 million in foreign receipts and that adds up to a pretty impressive total for a film with a budget of around $50 million. It'll add a little more before its run is complete.
In other news, it was announced this week that Meryl will be a present at the Academy Awards on the 22nd. So obviously she's planning on attending. She was also seen backstage at It's Only a Play on Broadway on Tuesday, and is also planning on attending "An Evening of Serious Fun" on March 2, which will be a tribute to the late Paul Newman. I only mention these last two bits because they both remind me of Master Class. The former is a play written by Terrence McNally, and the Newman event is taking place at Lincoln Center, the site of The Juilliard School where Master Class is set. Sigh.
If anyone's interested, the BAFTAs were awarded this afternoon. Top category winners are as follows:
Best Picture: Boyhood
Best Director: Richard Linklater (Boyhood)
Best Actor in a Leading Role: Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything)
Best Actress in a Leading Role: Julianne Moore (Still Alice)
Best Actor in a Supporting Role: J.K. Simmons (Whiplash)
Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Patricia Arquette (Boyhood)

DeleteBAFTAS are pathetic but glad they aren't trying to give Meryl the lifetime achievement award yet - she may be back in action if Ricki does well this summer.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping Into The Woods would have come in around 300 million but anything over 200 will be okay, I guess. Surprised the momentum dropped off but it's still good.
Rob Marshall I don;t think would be a good choice for Master Class. Meryl should just say "Fuck it" and direct herself. Haha
Yeah I know Marshall probably isn't the perfect fit, but better someone than no one. I just want it made!
