Sasha Stone over at Awards Daily is reporting that a rep from Disney has confirmed that Meryl will be campaigned in the Supporting Actress category, while her co-star Emily Blunt will be campaigned in lead for her role as the Baker's Wife.
This could've gone either way. It definitely ups Mery's chances for a nomination in my opinion. Not sure if Emily Blunt can sneak in, however. I can see both ladies getting lead nominations in comedy/musical at the Globes. Looks like Cleyton Davis had the inside scoop! I'm just glad we now have some confirmation.
Fourth win?
Go Meryl Go
ReplyDeleteYay! This is good news. My guess is that ITW will win two oscars: Best Supporting Actress and Best Makeup.
ReplyDeleteI don't see Emily Blunt getting a nomination, however. Maybe a nomination at the Globes, but that's it!
My guess is that it might win costume design. Don't think Meryl will win, but better chance in supporting. Agreed on Blunt.
DeleteWhen you start giving any credence to anything Sasha Stone says, I stop reading you. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteYou're free to read or not read whatever you please, "anonymous." For what it's worth, Broadway World and a handful of other online sources have reported that exact same thing Stone reported, simply that Disney confirmed Streep's placement. Sasha was just among the first.
DeleteDid you read what Jessica Chastain supposedly said about Meryl? I do agree and she's right in that Meryl gets the majority of the good parts for those over 55 but I still hate her for having the nerve to say it! Hope she is left in Oscar dust this year! hahaha

ReplyDeleteIt doesn't bother me. Acting in movies is not a democracy. Directors/film producers want certain people for any number of reasons. The bigger problem is the lack of great stories written for women, not the fact that it's Meryl taking parts from others. I imagine Chastain would be singing a different tune if she were over 60 and the only women of her generation getting work. Carry on, Meryl.
DeleteI absolutely agree, if some of the other named actresses had been cast in Meryl's part in some of the films she has done they would not have been seen and likely would have lost a lot of money in some cases. And it's the writers, Directors and Producers who seek her out, not the other way around. I found her comments really out of order.
DeleteJust heard the TomO'neil podcast on various oscar topics w/jeff wells. Tom
ReplyDeleteThinks Meryl is very much in the hunt for a win (BSA-into the woods). He thinks
Meryl will nail her final song Last Midnight and remember the similar money
Shot tune that gave wins to Hudson, Hathaway & Zeta-Jones? Meryl has a big shot at grabbing #4.
I don't mind if she doesn't win for Into The Woods, another nomination would be good. If she loses this I believe it may help build momentum for future nominations/wins for Ricki or a 2016 political drama already hinted at. We will see.
DeleteI would really like one of Meryl's 5 wins to be for a musical with elements of comedy though. Show her versatility for posterity ;-)
Just listened to the podcast. Yes, if Meryl indeed goes supporting, she has a great chance of being nominated. I think the only shot she has at a win is if she absolutely astounds us with her vocals.
