Cast of "August: Osage County" receives Hollywood Film Award
The cast of Meryl's upcoming film August: Osage County will be awarded the Hollywood Ensemble Acting Award for 2013. My first reaction to this news was "big deal." I know very little about this award, but needless to say it's not particularly prestigious. I'm sure it's a nice recognition nonetheless, but I wonder if any of the major stars of the film will be attending the ceremony on October 21st in Beverly Hills. Julia Roberts I imagine would be the most likely, as last week we learned that she's been awarded the Supporting Actress award to be presented the same night. Julia's award suggests she's officially being pushed supporting, an idea further advanced today by updated predictions and a little blurb from the folks at In Contention. Looks like Meryl may stand alone in the Lead Actress race for the film. This customer satisfied.

I am pleased Bullock has finally made a good film but I very much doubt she will become a 2-time winner. It looks more and more like it will be Blanchett who gets the gold.
ReplyDeleteI never had very high hope of a fourth win this close to the third, I am hopeful that the prizes can be split with Meryl taking a few critics awards and maybe a couple of big ones too. Anyway, I hope that they have taken some of the constructive criticism from Toronto and are using this time to iron out any issue. It would be a shame not to.
I'd be happy for Blanchett. I've considered her kind of her generation's Meryl. I really hope Meryl gets nominated for the big awards, however. I just enjoy having her in the conversation and accolades/kudos to her performances.
DeleteI guess meryl gets a lead nom but has
ReplyDeletezero chance for a win. (sigh)
I wouldn't say zero chance, but pretty small.
DeleteWe don't know anything for sure though, maybe when more critics see the film the praise will flood in..
ReplyDeleteJeff, Dont think its small she just needs a split vote between Cate Blanchett and eitherJudi Dench, Emma Thompson, Sandra Bullock or Amy Adams. Remember Katherine Hepburns 4 oscar was given because of a split between Meryl and Diane Keaton
ReplyDeleteYou make a good point, Ken. I'm probably just being pessimistic about it because I'd be so thrilled if she won a fourth for August. The play/story is so fantastic and I've been waiting for this role for three years. Would love buzz around her to build after Christmas.
DeleteJudi Dench seems likely for a nomination but in terms of buzz she isn't really up there from what I've read. Those who saw it said it is a typically Dench performance, ie: superb but not mind-blowing.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'm hoping too. Meryl's buzz will be helpful as sort of a late run in Jan/Feb.
