The original Iron Lady dead at 87

Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, whose likeness Meryl portrayed in her recent Oscar-winning performance of The Iron Lady, has died following a stroke.  Thatcher had been in ill health for several years.  Countless news sources are reporting on her death worldwide.  I imagine Meryl will be asked about it at some point and give her thoughts on what she took away or learned from studying the former conservative leader.  Streep shared her thoughts on Thatcher and the film in multiple interviews at the time of its release.  Here's one:

Love her or hate her, Thatcher was an extremely memorable and groundbreaking figure as the first female leader of a Western nation.

I hope that she'll attend the funeral, but I won't be surprised if she won't.

    1. I'd be very surprised if Meryl attended Thatcher's funeral. Although Meryl respected her accomplishments and personal fortitude, she wasn't exactly a fan. It seems that she learned to maybe appreciate her after portraying her, but I doubt Thatcher's family would want her there. I don't think they thought The Iron Lady was particularly flattering to Margaret.
