Release date set for "Florence Foster Jenkins"?

I've had a couple comments about this on the blog and happened to notice it myself earlier today but am just now getting around to posting.  IMDb is currently listing a release date (in Germany) for Florence Foster Jenkins: November 24, 2016.  Thanksgiving Day.  If that turns out to be true, I imagine a U.S release sometime shortly before that date.  We could probably expect a festival release in early fall as well.  November would no doubt set it up nicely for awards consideration.  Like many others, I've been getting the impression that the film will be a bit lighter in tone, therefore expecting a possible late summer release, similar to Ricki and the Flash.  This news suggests otherwise.

We are currently in a filming lull for Meryl, with no definitive projects set for production.  The closest possibility is likely The Good House, but as I've discussed ad nauseam, we don't even have a director attached.  Meryl's name was also recently brought up as a possibility for joining Amy Schumer in her mother-daughter comedy, but I wager that's a long shot.

It's quite possible that Meryl just wants to take several months off from prepping a role or filming.  How dare she?!  I'm greedy though, so of course prefer that she has at least one film released each calendar year.   At the very least this break provides some fun speculation of what may come next.  Regardless, it's of course difficult to remain patient.

  1. I'm really quite encouraged to think this won't be as light as it could have been and it could show at at least one of the big festivals. Meryl needs her Volpi cup!

I of course understand Meryl wanting a break as she has been busy since 2011 but obviously I want more good projects to come her way.

Why on earth aren't producers enticing her back to broadway at this point? I'm sure she'd love the challenge at this point and she and Don live there anyway! She should save up her time off for when she becomes a Grandma! haha

    1. For whatever reason I just don't picture Meryl doing a prolonged stage engagement IF she has the option of being in a decent role on film. Maybe a few weeks/months in between films though?

For some reason, over the years I've gotten the possibly off-base impression that Meryl's afraid of the stage at this point in her career- I mean if she really wanted to- I'm sure Broadway would be bending over backwards to get her (especially since the audience skews older, as opposed to film with the younger skewed audience). I wouldn't blame her- her reputation as always giving the perfect performance is pretty much impossible to uphold doing theater work. People hold her to such an impossible standard that she almost has no where to go but down on stage- I imagine for controlling perfectionist such as herself the stage must not be as appealing.

And I cannot wait for the day when Meryl becomes a grandma!!! With four grown children it's kind of baffling she isn't already... Kids these days!

Not that I actually forsee Meryl really being a part of it, but is the Amy Schumer mother-daughter comedy the same project as the Amy Schumer- Jennifer Lawrence sister project?
On an unrelated note, I harbor this strange jealousy and dislike of Jennifer Lawrence- probably stemming from the fact that I'm tired of people calling her "the next Meryl Streep." I think she's supremely overrated but I'm jealous of her popularity... sometimes I wish Meryl had broken into more popular box office movies earlier in her career... now it's almost as if any movie with Meryl as the main character is deemed an "old people" movie with no hope of getting the kind of box office returns a movie starring a younger person would. And it's a shame- I guess I was always an old soul even in my younger years but I wish young people wouldn't write off such things.

I really wish we had another project to look forward to... it seems you read about all these other stars getting new projects all the time and Meryl, supposedly extremely sought after, nothing. I just wish we knew if this was a self-inflicted break or if there are really no offers out there... it seems people like Blanchett and Moore are doing movies all over the place and they're not young either. I also doubt Meryl's being super picky after choosing that very lackluster Ricki script. Frustrating... (even though us Meryl fans have long been spoiled beyond belief).

    1. The Jennifer Lawrence/Amy Schumer script is listed as a separate project from the mother-daughter script Meryl was mentioned to be sought. I actually would think it very enticing if Meryl joined the Schumer project this fall, and then shot The Good House next year. Great box office appeal summer release for Schumer pic not to interfere with more awards-bait Florence Foster Jenkins. Then The Good House could be sole lead role in 2017 so it was main focus. Ugh is there a personality disorder that encompasses excessive wishful-thinking?

haha I've come to believe that everyone has some sort of neuroses- I think wishful thinking's probably a pretty good one to have... I myself have self-diagnosed OCD haha... what is it that appeals so much to you about The Good House Jeff? I haven't read the book yet. Is it a really good role? I simply want it to come together because 1) I selfishly want more Meryl and 2) I think it'd be great to see her work with DeNiro again... but I don't really know anything about the story...

    3. Oh, Hildy Good is just such a fantastic character. She's such a walking contradiction. So aware and so clueless at the same time. The book is so vivid and easy to read. It was nostalgic for me because it reminds me of autumn which for some reason has gone from my least favorite to most favorite time of year. Yes, it would be nice for Meryl to join Robert De Niro again, but mostly I just want to see her interpret an original character. I'm SO interested to know which directors FilmNation has shopped this script. I was so confident that it would happen after the merger of FilmNation and Roadshow. But now...???

    1. I saw that as well, but it was originally posted by The New York Post, which is bascially a tabloid. The original article also stated that Meryl was possibly going to be present for the shows final performance on Broadway on 9/12, but that she'll be on a film set. I doubt that's accurate.

  5. To the Long Winded Pessimist: don't fret about Jennifer Lawrence's success. Ever since Meryl became a star early in her career the press have been labelling new actresses 'the next Meryl Streep' for the past thirty years, nearly all fade quickly. I personally don't like people using "the next blah blah blah" because it gives the impression that the former is in some way disposable which Ms Streep clearly is not. While Jennifer is hot now and I think she's rather good, she has marketed herself as a personality and beauty icon which as she gets older will wither her appeal with producers who want hot young talent. Meryl never did that, she was never a fashion icon or face of a luxury brand and it has stood her in good stead (obviously) she is known first and foremost for her work. Also, as many critics have pointed out too, because Lawrence's quirky and loud personality is as famous as her films, can you really imagine taking her seriously in a period film or using an accent? Can you see her convincingly playing an iconic person from history? Consider the plethora of the roles that Meryl or Cate Blanchett or even Kate Winslet have taken on in their careers and ask yourself, would people even take Jennifer Lawrence seriously, let alone give her the oppurtunity?
