New UK trailer for "Ricki and the Flash"

The Telegraph posted a new trailer for Ricki and the Flash this afternoon.  Unfortunately it's the only link I can find and no embed is available to copy and past the full video so the best I can do is provide the link:

First thoughts are that I think this trailer is a tad better than the first.  A bit better cadence with some of the one-liners.  Little time for music again, but I'm hoping the songs will be a helpful word-of-mouth positive when people eventually see the film.  Opens next week!

  1. Hello! Greetings from Portugal! As a major fan of Streep's work, I hope this movie is "the movie", since, as we all know, although her performances are amazing, in the last years her movies were preety average. This new trailer seems to me much better than the previous and makes me wonder if all the movie can be an efective public and critic success, so you'll never know if she doesn't get the 20th nomination for this performance! Fingers crossed.

PS. I am also a huge fan of this blog. Congratulations!

    1. Welcome to the blog, Hugo! So thrilled you enjoy it! I hope you're right about Ricki and the Flash . I'm guessing that the film may be more popular with public than with the critics, but doubt that critics will hate it. I would LOVE if it scores about 70 on Rotten Tomatoes, Meryl gets raves for her performance, and it surpasses $75 million in cinemas. Golden Globe nod is sealed. Busy year in Best Actress category for Oscar, but after all, it's Meryl.

  2. Well the good news is that the very limited twitter response to people who've actually seen the screenings seems to be very positive. A couple people I saw said it was just alright but it seems most everyone has loved it as far as their letting on. Bad news is that the response to the trailers/ads seems to be overwhelmingly negative. It seems that people just aren't buying into the idea at all. I mean I have to agree since I think the first trailer was terrible and just the overall marketing campaign seems to be failing drastically. And according to Box Office's twitter, it's only expected to be in an estimated 1800 theatres- way lower than any of Meryl's other wide releases since Prime I believe. I just don't understand the marketing for this film at all because it sounds like its actually a pretty good movie that Meryl's going to get raves for... but at this point it seems to be on track to be a flop at the box office.

    1. Don't be absurd, Meryl films do not flop. I so love her version of Drift away released today, it's so good!

Well you never know. It just doesn't seem like the promotion for this movie is inspiring much enthusiasm- at least from the twitter crowd. Who knows, maybe those people wouldn't have seen the film anyway even if the marketing wasn't terrible since twitter leans younger. I just hope the "rocker" premise doesn't alienate the loyal older crowd usually drawn to Meryl. And only 1800 screens doesn't inspire much confidence.
It just seems like I've seen so many "I'm just not buying Meryl as a rock star" reactions from people who say they usually like Meryl... which is frustrating b/c I have no doubt Meryl will pull the acting off. I don't know if people are just misunderstanding who Ricki is or what.. maybe b/c she's being marketed as a cool rock star when in reality the character is no star- she plays dive bars and is supposed to look a bit ridiculous and age inappropriate- that's part of the humor of the movie. Hopefully it'll get a good critical/audience response right away and become a sleeper hit.. and people who wrote off the movie will be forced to reconsider their quick judgments based on crappy promotion.

I'm glad you love Drift Away- I think it's just alright. On the other hand I'm personally loving the full version of Cold One- I think Meryl sounds fantastic on it!
