Streep continues nominations run with BFCA nod

The Broadcast Film Critics Association announced their nominees this morning, and Meryl was recognized with two nominations, Best Supporting Actress and Best Ensemble for Into the Woods.  BFCA has six nominees for acting, so those joining Meryl include the following:

Patricia Arquette (Boyhood)
Jessica Chastain (A Most Violent Year)
Keira Knightley (The Imitation Game)
Emma Stone (Birdman)
Tilda Swinton (Snowpiercer)

Swinton is the only true surprise, but she's been getting a few nods from critics' groups.  Not a good sign for Laura Dern (Wild).  Streep is in good shape for an Academy Award nomination, with the next major televised show nominations being BAFTA, which will be announced January 9.

The Critics' Choice Awards will be presented Thursday, January 15 (the day of the Oscar nominations!).

Congrats again, Meryl.

  1. Excellent news, thoroughly deserved. These awards have a rich history of predicting future Oscar winners too I notice

    1. Indeed. Let's hope she gets the big one. She does have a chance at BAFTA, but I'm not holding my breath. If she gets BAFTA, it's a done deal. It's already close to a done deal.

  2. Good news indeed. I rather have her nominated for an oscar than a bafta if I have to pick one. But two nominations would be awesome.

I still think Meryl will win her fourth oscar next year. I also think she will win the golden globe, but loose the sag to miss Arquette. That's all!

    1. I think Meryl's only realistic chance at this point for a win would be the Globe, but even for that I'm probably not going to predict her unless reviews are just amazing when the embargo is finally lifted.

    2. I agree, I don't mind a loss this year as I am quietly confident about Ricki from all we've gleaned. It's atypical and musical and sexy. Very sure she will come back fighting again this time next year.

  3. It would be nice if Meryl won her 4th oscar next year for Ricki. What a great send off from her peers as she begins her hiatus from films. One never knows when
or if a declared break/hiatus transitions into a retirement at Meryl's age. (I hope she continues working into her mid 70's ala Hepburn but one never knows).

    1. She better not retire! She may take a year off from filming, but she won't stop, at least not now.

    2. I very much doubt she would retire. She is more in demand and has her choice of roles than at many other times of her career and I feel she likes representing older actresses who still draw big crowds. I just think she's unlikely to say yes to a film unless she believes in it. Which is unfortunately what a lot of her peers have been doing.

  4. She will probably "rest" like she did between Complicated and Iron Lady... Just a short break to recharge... Hopefully we won't even notice
