Cate Blanchett charges along with BAFTA win

Cate Blanchett all but assured her Oscar victory today with her BAFTA Award for Blue Jasmine.  I didn't make any predictions as Meryl wasn't nominated, but I figured I'd mention Blanchett's win here considering this is sort of the nail in the coffin for anyone other than her in regard to the possibility of an Oscar win, including Meryl.  Cate of course won the Golden Globe and SAG, among numerous other critics' wins.  The Academy Awards will be televised on Sunday, March 2nd.  Two weeks from today!

  1. I've always wished for Meryl and Cate to act in the same movie...oh well maybe one day it will happen and it'd better be good!

    1. I had thought it may be nice that if Meryl films The Good House this year to have Cate portray Rebecca, but I feel like her schedule is already pretty full. It also would maybe be too "Notes on a Scandal." Hoping for Jessica Chastain!

    2. Yes I think Cate is currently filming 'Carol' and will resume her stage performance in America (The Maids) sometime in June. If they ever get a chance to act opposite each other, I'm sure they will raise the bar for the movie itself.

  2. Now Cate has more BAFTAs than Meryl :(

I am pleased this is her year finally but I was hoping BASTA would reward either Dench or Thompson who are amazing but left in the cold. Oh well. They are both multiple winners in the past anyway.

Fingers crossed that Into The Woods is amazing!

    1. I can totally see Into the Woods being big with BAFTA since it was filmed in London and half the cast is British.
