Blunt, Baranksi up for "Into the Woods"

Sheesh, Disney is hopping right to it figuring out the cast for Into the Woods.  The lastest news is that Emily Blunt is being considered for The Baker's Wife, while Christine Baranski is rumored to be in negotiations for The Stepmother.   This would be Blunt's second film alongside Meryl, following 2006's The Devil Wears Prada.   Baranski, who previously worked with director Rob Marshall in Chicago, more recently paired with Meryl in 2008's mega-hit musical Mamma Mia!  So far pretty much anyone who has been "in talks" has essentially been confirmed in one role or another.  Here's where we are:

The Witch: Meryl Streep (confirmed)
The Wolf: Johnny Depp (confirmed)
The Baker: James Corden (confirmed)
Cinderella's/Rapunzel's Prince: Jake Gyllenhaal & Chris Pine (rumored)
The Baker's Wife:  Emily Blunt (rumored)
The Stepmother: Christine Baranski (rumored)

  1. This film is gearing up to be a massive event. I hope Roy is able to create an amazing look for Meryl in this. I thouht that perhaps being a witch she would be made to look old and frumpy but I ready somewhere that the witch is "vain". I'm also curious how she will be presented in The Homesman. Matronly I guess!

    1. The Witch starts off in the first act old and ugly and then regains her beauty and youth later in the play. That's a big part of the story. She puts a curse on the the Baker and his wife and makes them go on a quest for certain things she needs to turn beautiful again, and for the curse/spell to be broken on them. I hope I didn't give too much of a spoiler.

I've read The Homesman, and Altha Carter is very much matronly. She plays a minister's wife!

  2. I know she won't be on-screen for long in that but I hope she has some good scenes at the end. I guess they won't do much to expand the character and I suppose Meryl took this more as a favour and a chance to work with Tommy Lee Jones again.

That's good news a bout the Witch, I just hope with all the star power getting involved that Meryl's role isn't diminished to make more room for others!

    1. I think Meryl being in The Homesman may be just as much about working with her daughter Grace as about working with Tommy Lee again. Reminds me of her role in Evening.

  4. Yes you are right Jeff I'm sure that was a big part of it. I just hope the film doesn't turn out to be received like Evening!
