Director Adam McKay recently did an interview on the podcast Happy Sad Confused. In it, he stated his upcoming Netflix film, Don't Look Up, was likely to be released in either November or December. This isn't exactly wild news, as we already knew it was slated for a fourth quarter release.
More interesting is how McKay talks about how he and Leonardo DiCaprio reworked the script for several months prior to filming. There's been some buzz that the script was a bit light in some areas, or perhaps too campy. I expected that the version I read was likely not the final draft they filmed. Glad to hear it's been cleaned up a bit--anything to better the chances of this film getting good notices. McKay also commented on how the tone of the film will be a mix of The Big Short and The Other Guys.
Maybe we'll get our first teaser this summer.
I'm hoping for a tease during the Oscars!!
ReplyDeleteJust for fun, but if Don’t Look Up is critically acclaimed and well received across the board then we could be looking at these Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Lawrence), Best Actor (DiCaprio), Best Supporting Actress (Meryl!), Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing. Who knows what else. Ofc I’ll keep my expectations low but it’s hard given this cast and Adam McKay’s recent movies. It would also be one of Meryl’s strongest Oscar contenders in recent years for which she is also nominated.
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere that she is playing the President in the movie who is trying to downplay the impending disaster because elections are coming up soon. I also read that the character is basically a mixture of Trump and her characters from The Devil Wears Prada and August Osage County which is crazy to think about. She definitely a frontrunner for Best Supporting Actress next year.
DeleteIs Babylon going to start filming this Summer?
ReplyDeleteThat is my understanding, yes. Gotta figure we'll know fairly soon whether Meryl is part of the cast.
DeleteI never want to hear Meryl is overrated again. She has 2 lead actress Oscars to Frances's 3- for playing herself again.

ReplyDeletei'm crushed that Frances equaled and toppled Meryl's third acting Oscar that too with 14 fewer nominations.
ReplyDeleteI hope Meryl will get her fourth to cement her status as greatest living actress.that's the max she will get I think even though she herself said she won't be up there again..
Meryl needs to win 1 more Oscar - most likely BSA - to cement her letacy
DeleteMeryl doesn’t need anything to cement her status. The Oscar’s don’t own her legacy and Frances’s success does not erode Meryl’s. Awards and nominations are just footnotes to long, illustrious careers.
ReplyDeleteCorrect. I'm thrilled when Meryl gets nominated for her work. It's fun when attention is brought to her films and performances...more people will watch that way. But Oscar wins are certainly not a perfect metric for evaluating the quality of one's career. Happy for Frances. Well-deserved.
DeleteWe do not need to feel bad about Frances’ triumph, I am pleased for her. As stated, nothing will diminish Meryl’s legacy or achievements, which are immense. I’m sure Frances would be the first to salute her as a trailblazing female in film.
ReplyDeleteThese last few years I think actors have been taking more risks; not waiting for offers but actively finding and producing their own material and working with new talent. I hope this is something we see more of from Meryl in the future, there are still many more great roles for her!
It would be really interesting if Meryl started to produce more things. Ultimately, I don't think it'll happen much, if at all. The Nix looks like it's not going to happen at this point (she was a listed producer).
DeleteAgree with this. Meryl has a lot left in her arsenal.
DeleteThanks for keeping up the really positive vibe of this blog Jeff. Every post/comment is light and encouraging and fun.
My pleasure! Thank YOU for reading. I should mention that as I read back my comment from Monday that Meryl is actually a listed producer for Places, Please.
