Variety is reporting that The Post will be given a limited release on December 22 of this year and then be expanded nationwide three weeks later, on January 12. As we were expecting, this will make the film eligible for the 2018 Oscars. No official word on the exact date filming is set to start, but considering this news, I expect it will remain on schedule and begin sometime in May, as previously reported.
Strangely, the article cited states that the film is currently untitled, calling it "Steven Spielberg's untitled Pentagon Papers drama." I imagine that's just bad reporting, and that they're not changing the name of the movie.

I don't think it's The Post that is the movie coming out in December. Collider labels it as "Untitled", and I did hear about another untitled Spielberg movie that is coming out this year. So don't jump to this conclusion quite yet. I just don't think it's possible for them to film starting in May and somehow get a trailer out a few months before the release date. There just isn't enough time.
ReplyDeleteEva, the Spielberg film that is being released is the film with Streep and Hanks. It will film in May and definitely be completed and ready for December. That said, I have seen a couple new articles that similarly state that the title of "The Post" may not remain. But it's the Pentagon Papers film that was announced in March. Remember that Spielberg didn't even start filming Munich in 2005 until June and it was released in in November. He should have no problem with this film, regardless if they keep the original title.
