Meryl Streep and Martin Short were photographed at a restaurant in London very recently. Not much more to say than what the headline suggests. We know that the two are (likely) a couple, and that the sixth and upcoming season of Hulu's Only Murders in the Building is set to take place at least partly in London this year. Thus, it makes sense that they're in London for the time being to shoot!
No official word that I've seen, but it makes sense that they'd film for a couple months with the season coming out later this year. That would a bit of a quicker turnaround than in recent seasons, as they've usually filmed earlier in the year with the season being released fourth quarter. Maybe they'll push this season's release to early 2027. I honestly could barely care less. The best of the show seems like it's behind us, and I would love to see Meryl in new projects.
Same here. I could care less. There are tons of complex engaging female characters as seen in Cannes festival and I'm kind of blah that Meryl persists in something like this. Whatever.

DeleteI feel that still in in summer, we will hear more concrete news on her involvment in new projects. The Corrections project is set to be shot still in 2026, and there are other movies bubbling like the Useful Idiots or that eargerly expected Joni Mitchell biopic. Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteThe useful idiots was supposed to start filming in March but it looks like here's another project in limbo as Sigourney Weaver is currently tied to two other projects, one filming, the other starting in August. Having said that, Meryl has every right to be in love, take a vacation or align her projects with Martin's schedule. We fans have also every right to wish for better projects for her - OMITB is yuks to me., I didn't even find the last two seasons worth watching. Much as I love Meryl, I'm also glad I'm a fan of other actresses like Emma Stone ( she's unbelievable!), Cate Blanchett and Sandra Huller whose upcoming films are something I can't wait to see. As for Prada 2, I'm only happy because I have not seen her in a long time on the big screen. Other than that, it's merely enjoyable, not some performance I will remember in 20 years' time.

I feel like she is lowering her standards here.
Same with their Broadway project with Short. I'm afraid she needs to perform classical repertoire, not a variety show. IMO.

As much as I love and appreciate Meryl as a big fan, I think that continuing to act in this project, Only Murders in the Building, is detrimental to her career. It is far below her level, and I see that there are other similar opinions.Her relationship with Martin should remain strictly at a personal and intimate level; it’s their business what they do in their personal lives, but from a professional point of view, this show is very weak, superficial, and it has a rating that is far too high for its quality.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I didn't respond to another fan here earlier about his/her post on Meryl's potential return to stage with Martin. I thought Meryl would be different from some of the other actresses who were in love and allowed their beaus to star or work with them in the movies they were in. I don't want to mention who these actresses are because I don't want to seem like I'm penalizing them or something. But alas I'm wrong. Meryl is just like them. Anyway, this is not a criticism of Meryl, just an observation. So yeah, I'm not so hyped about her return to stage after all. Here's hoping Useful Idiots or Corrections will surprise us.

ReplyDeleteHaving said that, I don’t think her involvement in the show is detrimental to her career in the least. There was also a recent BTS photo of Derek Jacobi on set for this upcoming season. I would love to see Meryl acting opposite Jacobi in a scene or two.
She has to stop filming that series. It s under her talent . She must hear the voice of her millions fans.
ReplyDeleteFor a different perspective, I like OMITB (and I liked it before Meryl got involved). I can't be the only one as the show still gets views and makes money - otherwise they wouldn't produce it. I can't see how Meryl's involvement in this show is detrimental to her career. She apears in 2 episodes / year and probably spends a few weeks on set filming (she obviously finds it an enjoyable experience otherwise she wouldn't come back...). I understand the show is not to everyone's liking and that's OK, not everyone has to watch it. But there are plenty of OMITB fans out there (me included) that also love Meryl's portrayal of Loretta and wish to see more of it. (She plays Loretta beautifully, by the way. She was great in season 3, so and so in season 4, and again great in season 5.)
