Multiple sources are reporting that if (more like when) Hulu's Only Murders in the Building is renewed for a sixth season that they may be heading to London for shooting. The season finale for season 5 is tomorrow, and it's expected that the location change may be hinted during the episode.
This maybe throws a wrinkle into the shooting schedule if Meryl were to participate. I assume they'll bring her back, considering her character is married to one of the three leads. But I highly doubt that she'll be spending all winter/spring in London just to shoot, unless she plans to be there to be close to Martin Short. If she were to film scenes, I maintain that she could likely do that in a very short period of time, like a week.
Regardless, Loretta's use in the show seems so superfluous to me at this point, that I hope Meryl is simply unavailable to participate in the next season, or that if she is, that her availability is very limited because she's committed to other projects. Yes, she'll do what she wants and she may love the experience of working on this show and with its actors blah blah blah, but as a fan, I'd like to see her move on (if OMITB were somehow to prevent her from joining other projects).

There’ll likely be promo for DWP2 in Europe and UK next year — that’s when she can squeeze it in if needed! Unless of course it’s only partially set there and she can film her bits in NYC before the press tour begins. Regardless, 2026 is finally feeling like the true proper “comeback” year - not that she ever went away!

ReplyDeleteI don't think "OMITB" would conflict with her film project schedules. The director of the Joni biopic said they originally planned to start filming in March, before the Prada sequel began production. However, the wildfires in Los Angeles caused the shooting schedule to be postponed.OMITB S5 started filming in March, and there was no announcement about Meryl's return until May when news of her filming suddenly emerged. I believe it was because the Joni biopic couldn't proceed as planned, which created an opening in her schedule, and that's why she ended up joining S5.And for S5, in terms of Meryl's scenes, it didn't seem like it took her much time to film.

DeleteYeah, Cameron Crowe was on Colbert 5 days ago. He didn’t reveal much or anything we didn’t already know. They’ve been working on it for 4 years, and Meryl’s involvement in tabloids go back to then. I bet she’s had a long time practising and perfecting being Joni. He does emphasise though that the movie is “not from a distance, it’s from her perspective, her life, looking out” signalling the chunk of it comes from older Joni?!
