Streep cast in season 3 of "Only Murders in the Building"

Wow, some project news. Multiple sources are reporting that Meryl has been cast in season 3 of Hulu's original comedy series, Only Murders in the Building. The news was revealed by co-star Selena Gomez on her Instagram account.

Quick blurb from Variety:

The comedy-drama series follows Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez), neighbors at an Upper West Side building called the Arconia, who bond over a love of true crime podcasts and end up starting their own as mysterious murders happen around them.

The series has garnered critical acclaim and numerous awards recognition since its first season in 2021. It also became Hulu's most-watched comedy series ever. There's no info yet on just who Meryl is going to portray. This show has been something I've been on the verge of starting in recent months. I just don't tend to start actual series much anymore, more limited series. But now I'm definitely going to start it. Glad to see that Meryl is out there doing some new work, and I'd expect that we'll see the next season sometime this summer. I certainly wouldn't mind also getting some news of a film project with a lead role on her schedule in the second half of the year, perhaps. But this news is great, and it'll probably broaden her fan base even greater, considering Selena Gomez has 371 million followers on Instagram.

  1. I'm a little disappointed with the news though - maybe I'm just greedy and selfish and I want Meryl to star in some fantastic movie with a renowned director (like Cate Blanchett with Todd Field and winning all the major awards and counting), maybe I'm not into Murders in the Building TV series (I could not even finish the first ep in S1). Underwhelmed for sure...but it's great to see her again smiling in that group photo!

    1. I'm with you in regard to wishing the project update was something "bigger." But we have to remind ourselves that Meryl has always taken breaks for one reason or another. This one was no different/worse (at least in length) than 1999-2000, 2009-2011, and technically 2015-2017 (we forget this time period because she had three leading roles including two Oscar nominations for the movies released in these years, but until she was announced for The Post in early 2017 and started filming in May of that year, she hadn't filmed anything since the spring/summer of 2015, with NO projects announced until The Post).

She might end up having a very busy next five years, if the pattern continues, which I have no reason to believe it won't.

  2. Finally, we get some news, even though not as leading star of a potential oscar movie. But... hey, guys, at least we have news, and Meryl is not ill or retiring. Maybe she wants to slow down at this moment of her life, but I have great hopes for 2023/24. Fingers crossed!

  3. I love this show! When the rumours started I didn't let myself hope but i am very happy! I just hope it's a role worth her time!! It's funny to me that she joins existing popular series when she could very well lead her own if the part was right! I agree with the sentiments about a leading role in a film, but the difference with coming back from this break is her age. Hollywood is far from fixed on that front so roles may be slimmer and more supporting in nature but I hope I am wrong and she blows everyone away with a tour-de-force Oscar-winning critically acclaimed performance and film in the next decade!

    1. The other exciting part of this is that this show has a relatively quick turnaround to airing (or rather, streaming) so we could get 2 Meryl TV appearances this year!

    2. It would have been great to see her lead a show like Damages, where she got to create a memorable character and have short, well-written seasons
