First official stills from "The Prom"

Netflix has released several set pics from Meryl's upcoming film, The Prom.

Very colorful and Ryan Murphy-y. And Meryl looks like she's bringing some major camp again. There's a good quote from her about the film on IndieWire:

“It just had some of the juju of ‘Mamma Mia!,'” Streep told THR of her decision to take the part in “The Prom.” “This is based on a real thing that happened to kids in Indiana, and has a happy ending, everything we dream of in 2020. I wanted to do it. So, the character is a big asshole. I tried very hard to bring that part of me forward.”

Netflix is set to release the film on Dec 11.

  1. Love her quote and she looks magnificent! I wasn't super excited about this in the beginning but now I'm hoping it will be a big hit. I think a Golden Globe nomination will be assured - - her 11th in Musical or Codemy I believe? Who would have thought she would almost catch up on her Drama total..

    1. She looks amazing! This was filmed when the woman was friggin 70. I can't wait to seem Meryl be an asshole.

  2. After the year we have all had, something uplifting, camp and cathartic is in order! Shocked at the fact that Netflix has more out than HBO Max on their Meryl projects...

    1. You couldn't be more right, Darcy. And for real can we get like a tiny bit more info about Let Them All Talk?

  3. Never sleep on Streep! She tends to get Oscar nominated for Broadway roles she does for screen. If this is uplifting, she could easily grab another Oscar nom. She hasn't been nominated for the 2020's yet, she needs another decade to her record. 70s, 80s, 90, 00s, 10s...

    1. I'm with you, Sean! It think it'll be a stretch for her to land and Oscar nom, but not impossible. Globe pretty good chance.

  4. Netflix has posted more stills including her and that quote is originally from The Hollywood Reporter, who’s latest magazine features the cast on the cover.

Also regarding Let Them All Talk, there’s a Deadline article that explains that it is not a TV movie, it will compete for Oscars.

    1. Yup, the quote indicates it's taken from a Hollywood Reporter interview ("THR").

Saw the Deadline article a while ago and was bit surprised. Hard to believe it'll make inroads better than The Prom with the Academy. Both are long shots here regardless. But if it's competing in Comedy/Musical for the Globes, I suppose it's not impossible for Meryl to snag a double nom there in that category, a la 2010 with Julie & Julia/It's Complicated.

  5. I've recently listened to the original Broadway cast recording out of curiosity... I loved it and I can't wait to see Meryl slay in this. She will have two solos basing on the track list and I honestly get goosebumps imagining her singing those.
